Annika Ferris
Technical Expert - Animal Health - National
About me: Growing up on a sheep and beef farm east of Dannevirke, I always knew I wanted to be part of the agriculture industry. After graduating Massey with my vet degree in 2015, I landed my first job at a truly mixed practice in the heart of the King Country, focusing primarily on sheep and beef work with minimal dairy farms – only to end up marrying a local dairy farmer! Two kids later and after countless adventures alongside some great colleagues and clients involving late-night pig dog stitch-ups and calvings, I decided it was time for a change and I joined the enthusiastic Agritrade team as their vet in 2024. Outside of work, I love helping my husband with stock work, taking the kids hunting for deer, eeling in the creeks, and enjoying all the adventures that farm life offers.
My role: As the Animal Health Technical Expert for Agritrade, I am fortunate to work with a broad range of the Agritrade team. My responsibilities include providing technical information to sales representatives, facilitating training sessions for store staff on animal health topics, and collaborating with the sales and marketing team to deliver educational campaigns and explore future product opportunities. One of my favourite aspects of the job is engaging with farmers and reps, discussing how our products can help farms achieve their production goals, and advising on management practices to ensure sustained product efficacy. I also greatly enjoy the collegiality and the opportunity to collaborate with other technical experts in the agricultural industry through trial work and research and development projects
Why Vetmed? Vetmed is inherently Kiwi – from the blokes that make it, to the stores that sell it, to the farmers using it. The broad product range offers a solution to fit each individual farming system and being a local kiwi team, we can provide product support efficiently and understand the challenges being faced day to day on farm.
Something about me that might surprise you: Despite a very rambunctious childhood with two brutish younger brothers, I have never broken a bone. Must be all that good cow’s milk!
